Our Story

"The most meaningful moments always happened in the kitchen. Whether it was prepping for Shabbat dinner or cooking for a holiday gathering, people opened up when they were chopping vegetables or stirring pots together."
The idea didn’t come from a meeting or a planning session. It came during a late-night conversation in our kitchen. We had just finished hosting another community program at Chabad of Broomfield. People stayed late. Conversations flowed. There was warmth, connection, and that familiar feeling of togetherness we’re so grateful to see again and again. But we kept hearing the same thing: “I want to do more. I want to give back. I want to make a difference.”
In our work building Jewish community, we (that’s us, Yossi and Toby) have spent years creating spaces for people to connect. But we noticed something. The most meaningful moments always happened in the kitchen. Whether it was prepping for Shabbat dinner or cooking for a holiday gathering, people opened up when they were in the kitchen together.
Then we were confronted with a reality that stopped us in our tracks. Right here in the Denver metro area, families face food insecurity. Many are working parents, seniors, or individuals quietly struggling to make ends meet. In our own backyard, neighbors are unsure where their next nutritious meal will come from.
We thought about the families in our community who want to help but don’t always know how. We thought about people who are busy, caring, and generous, but may feel disconnected from traditional volunteering models. And we thought about how meaningful it would be for someone to receive a fresh, home-cooked meal made with dignity and love.
The answer was sitting right in front of us: a kitchen.
Not just any kitchen, but a place where community members of all ages could come together, roll up their sleeves, and cook real meals for real families. No canned food drives. No reheated or processed dishes. Just wholesome, nutritious meals made from scratch and delivered with care.
With the guidance and inspiration of our friends at Our Giving Kitchen Dallas, whose work showed us what’s possible when a kitchen becomes a place for real community impact, Our Giving Kitchen Denver was born. What began as a simple idea quickly grew into something much bigger. Not just a way to feed people, but a way to build connection, purpose, and shared responsibility for one another.
When we walk into the kitchen and see people from all backgrounds laughing together while they cook, or when we receive a thank-you note from a family whose day was lifted by a warm, home-cooked meal, we know we’re onto something special. We may have big plans for the future of Our Giving Kitchen Denver, but at its heart, this is simply about bringing people together to help their neighbors.
Want to cook with us? Our kitchen is open, our recipes are ready, and there’s always room for more at our table.
Come make something amazing with us.
